What shirt should I buy for my b/f who wears dark jeans?

I want to buy my b/f a crewneck sweater and a short sleeve polo golf shirt to wear with the dark jeans he is always wearing. He usually just wears t-shirts (even when we go out to dinner) and I want him to try and dress up those dark jeans.

I was going to buy him a light blue sweater, but the lady at the store told me that I should buy a dark navy blue sweater to go with dark jeans. What do you people think?

    If he is a t-shirt and jeans guy you might want to go with the darker color. The sweater will already make him feel a little weird at first and the darker color will make him feel more comfortable. Going with a light color might make him think pretty boy even more.

    i totally think your ideas are great! also, button ups are good (and he can wear them over his t-shirts). i like the ones with thin vertical stripes
    see what shirts look good next to jeans that look like his (pick up a pair that resemble them at whatever store you are at)
    you could also do the light blue sweater too though, all that dark may be too dark….but think what he will be comfertable in.

    i hope he wears what you buy him!

    i suggest that you just but him a black polo/oxford longsleeve shirt if you want to dress him up a lil formal..

    Well, what color t-shirts do you like on him? I would say try a color/colors that will contrast with his jeans. Like a light yellow, or green, or even dark red. Also, you can try something that has some dimension to it, like a small plaid or verticle stripes, but nothing to “out there”. We certainly don’t want him looking like “Where’s Waldo” or some guy’s scottish kilt! Oh, and while you’re out shopping grab a pair of jeans that are similar in color to his and put them together to see what you think. The favorite shirts that I have bought my boyfriend are dark green with tiny yellow plaid stripes, dark and light and bright blue stripes - all of varying widths, and turqouis with green and white.     I also wear t’shirts out of choice whenever I’m not working, occasionally varied by a short-sleeved shirt. In your position, I would buy your boyfriend either a short-sleeved shirt (NOT polo shirt because MY DAD wears polo shirts and I regard them as being for OLD men or those that actually play golf and polo…) in his favourite colour or a smart but comfortable fleece top to go over his existing t’shirts.Oh, and thank you for a non-veggie question FINALLY!!

    Get him a white T shirt and a good quality leather jacket to go over it.
