if golf is supposed to be the same for everyone, why in the world can the pros wear spiked shoes on the course

woods, mickelson, singh & others are wearing spikes in the PGA! we’re not even allowed on the course unless we’re wearing SOFT spikes. they are better than us, but why should they have a choice in their equipment?! it should be the same for everyone! I would like a pro to answer this! are we allowed on your private course wearing spikes or not?

damage of 600 fatboy golfers per day who can’t pick up their feet isn’t an issue on the tournament courses. soft spikes are a local rule anyway. I think I get better contact out of black widow spikes than metal anyway.

who said golf is the same for everyone? there’s different tee blocks; mens and ladies handicaps; different types and brands of equipment balls and, of course, every golf course is unique. if you want universality, try bowling. golf has never been uniform.

When you play in a tournament or a match everyone plays to the same rules. The USGA golf rules do not say what spikes you can and cannot wear on the golf course. Those are local golf course rules.

I would have to agree with richard. Nothing is the same, they all use different balls and so on, so it is not all equal.

why are you so annoyed about it?
I would bet you $500 you couldn’t even tell the difference. Metal spikes wont make your swing better, shots longer, or putts more accurate.
Happy golfing!
